While it wasn't a massive hit at the time, Brigandine was unique on the PS1, a console that was hardly known for its grand strategy titles. It might be a stretch to describe Brigandine as an RPG as it is predominantly a turn-based strategy game, but the project has enough role-playing elements to justify a mention. While an argument can certainly be made in favor of that claim, the genre has hardly slowed down in recent years. Some might argue that JRPGs peaked during the '90s and early 2000s with the SNES, PS1, and PS2.
